On April 1, 2005, Nagaoka was reborn, merging with the former towns of Nakanoshima, Koshiji, Mishima and Oguni,
and the village of Yamakoshi. Taking a step into the future, we are determined
to make our city even more attractive. Furthermore, it was agreed that
four additional municipalities (Tochio City, Teradomari Town, Yoita Town,
and Washima Village) would unite with the "New City of Nagaoka"
on January 1st, 2006.
2005年4月1日、新しい長岡市が誕生しました。長岡市・中之島町・越路町・三島町・小国町・山古志村の6市町村が合併し、新たな都市へと生まれ変わりました。より魅力的なまちを目指し、長岡市はその第一歩を踏み出します。さらに、栃尾市・寺泊町・与板町・和島村の4市町村と2006年1月1日に合併することが合意を得ました。
